The Lawn and Pavilion

WELCOME

The Pavilion XI resides in the middle of Central Grounds on the first floor of Newcomb Hall and houses various fast-food restaurants.

Each of the ten Pavilions has a unique design intended to serve as an example of a specific architectural style with eight of them still serving as homes for faculty and their families. The 54 Lawn rooms are highly sought after by rising fourth-year students. While all rooms are now air conditioned, only a few have accessible bathrooms and the rest lack private facilities.

Symbolic and idyllic, the Lawn is used as an informal classroom, sports field and picnic spot. The Lawn becomes a centerpiece during Graduation, officially known as “Finals.” Statues of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and a prominent sculpture entitled, Blind Homer with his Student Guide, are found towards the southern end of the Lawn.
