Culbreth, Helms, and Ruth Caplin Theatres at UVA Department of Drama

WELCOME

The UVA Department of Drama is home to a state-of-the-art theatre complex, which includes the 520-seat Culbreth Theatre with a proscenium stage, the 160- to 200-seat Helms Theatre, and the 300-seat Ruth Caplin Theatre, a thrust theatre. In addition, the Drama Building is home to UVA Arts Box Office (open from Tuesday through Friday, Noon – 5 PM), Virginia Players (a UVA student club), and the Virginia Theatre Festival.

This impressive complex also houses classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, studio space, costume, and scene shops. The Department presents theatre and dance performances throughout the academic year.

Each summer, the Virginia Theatre Festival (formerly Heritage Theatre Festival) is in residence at the University of Virginia as Virginia’s professional theatre. During the season, leading directors, designers, technicians, and actors come together to present musicals and plays.

Limited free parking is available along Culbreth Road directly in front of the Culbreth Theatre Building. The Culbreth Road Garage also offers paid hourly parking during business hours and opens to the public after 5 PM on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday for free parking.

Tickets to events can be purchased through the Arts Box Office website.
